OUR TAKE:

Offering what is hands-down the best view of the City of Angels, Yamashiro is nestled on a hillside amongst old pine trees and expansive gardens. The sprawling restaurant offers an accessible mix of Japanese fare - sushi rolls, sashimi, and main dishes. There are also some more unusual items, such as the hot pot soups and black truffle edamame.

Yamashiro is also designed with dinner dates in mind. There are tables set for two along the windows with some of the best views in the house. Request one of the corner tables for two for ideal sunset views.

LOCATION:

The hills above West Hollywood. See map below.

PARKING SITUATION:

Valet parking only, $10. You might just want to take Uber or Lyft so you don’t have to navigate the winding hills and crowded streets of Hollywood.

WHEN TO GO:

Yamashiro is open at 5 PM daily, and we highly recommend arriving at 5 PM for the amazing sunset views! We also recommend going on a weeknight for a quieter, more intimate experience.

OUR FAVORITE DISHES:

We loved the popcorn shrimp with thai chili sauce (it’s not too spicy) and the Robata-Yaki, which are grilled skewers perfect for sharing with your date.

For meat eaters, the tableside grilled waygu looks like a real treat that will leave a lasting impression.

WHAT TO EXPLORE:

There are hidden temples and pagodas throughout the grounds at Yamashiro that you can discover with your date. Make sure to arrive 20 minutes early to snap a photo with the giant golden Buddha (or sit in his lap!).

If you visit in summer, be sure to wander down to the Pagoda Bar for an after-dinner cocktail. It’s been rated one of the best outdoor bars in LA - with good reason!
